The Ultimate Breakfast Smoothie

The Ultimate Breakfast Smoothie

  • half a Banana
  • four to six frozen strawberries
  • half cup plain yogurt
  • half to one cup orange juice
  • one Tbsp Flax seeds
  • one Tbsp whey protein powder

In a blender add the banana, strawberries, yogurt, and orange juice. Blend until smooth. Add the flax seeds and whey, blend until evenly distributed. Pour in two glasses and enjoy! Makes 2 smoothies.

This simple recipe demonstrates the basics for a delicious smoothie. For variety, it can be easily modified to suit your taste.

Marshmallow Fruit Salad

1 large can fruit cocktail
1 can Mandarin oranges
1 (20oz) can chunk pineapple
3 oz. cream cheese
8 oz. Cool Whip
3 oz. strawberry banana Jell-O
1 bag mini marshmallows
chopped fresh fruit (bananas, grapes, strawberries) (optional)

Open and drain all canned fruit. If also using fresh fruit, chop and set aside in a bowl. Soften cream cheese in a large bowl.

Mix Cool Whip and dry Jell-O (just the powder) with the cream cheese. Make sure that all of the sugar/powder from the Jell-O is dissolved. Finally, add all the canned/fresh fruit.

This may be served immediately, but chilling the fruit salad for 30 minutes to an hour before serving is best.

Apple Pie

7 tart apples, peeled and cored
1 cup white sugar
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, or to taste
2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
salt to taste
2 recipes unbaked pie shells
1 tbsp butter

1. Preheat over to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
2. Cut the apples into 1/4 inch slices.
3. in a mixing bowl, combine sugar, cinnamon, flour, nutmeg (or apple pie spice), and salt. Mix thoroughly. Pour the spice mix over the apples and stir until the apples are coated.
4. Line one crust in a 0-inch deep dish pie pan. place the apples in the pie crust. Dot the apple filling evenly with butter. Fit the top crust over the apples. Press the crust down gently and cut 3 or 4 slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape while the pie bakes.
5. Bake in the preheated oven 50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Check the pie after the first 30 minutes of cooking; if the crust is already browned reduce the heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) to allow the apples to cook without the crust burning.

Mango Salsa

1 mango, peeled and diced
1 red pepper, roasted, peeled and diced
1 Tbsp. olive oil
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
1/2 orange, peeled and diced
1 canned pineapple ring, chopped
juice of 1 lime
1/4 cup green onions, chopped
salt and black pepper, to taste

Combine all ingredients well, adjusting the seasoning to taste.

German Fruit Torte

DOUGH:
3 1/2 c. flour
2 sticks plus 1 Tbsp. butter
1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp baking powder

FILLING:
3-4 apples, thinly sliced

GLAZE:
1 egg
2 tbsp. sour cream (or yoghurt)
2 tbsp. apricot jam
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 tbsp. sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp. finely chopped nuts

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. For dough, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs. Add flour and baking powder.
3. Knead lightly, just until mixture forms a ball.
4. Press dough into 2 (9 inch) springform pans or 1 jelly roll size pan. Or freeze 1/2 of dough. It should come up sides of pan about 1/2 inch.
5. Arrange fruit slices on dough in a spiral. Keep torte in refrigerator while you make glaze.
6. Mix first 5 glaze ingredients in blender or food processor. all chunks of apricot should be gone. Pour over fruit.
7. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and nuts. Bake for 35 minutes.

French Apple Pie

Filling Ingredients

  • 20 ounce can sliced apples, packed in water, drained
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 9" pie crust, unbaked

Streusel Crumb Recipe Topping Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • Pinch salt
  • 2 Tbsp butter, melted
  • Oatmeal

Directions - How To Make French Apple Pie Recipe

  1. Drain apples, place in large mixing bowl.
  2. Add all other filling ingredients and mix with a spoon or spatula.
  3. Pour into your favorite unbaked pie crust. Set aside.
  4. In the same bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and butter with hands or pastry blender until crumbly and looks like streusel.
  5. Add oatmeal and mix in.
  6. Sprinkle topping evenly over pie.
  7. Bake at 375 degrees for approximately 40 minutes or until bubbly and topping is lightly toasted.
  8. Cool before serving.
  9. Makes 1 9"pie.
